Second man pleads guilty to slaying gay Indiana man
CROTHERSVILLE, Ind.—A second man pleaded guilty last week to killing a 32-year-old gay man in a brutal beating last April in the southern Indiana town of Crothersville.
Garret Gray, 20, also of Crothersville, admitted to voluntary manslaughter last week in Jackson County, Ind., Circuit Court, under a plea bargain deal reached with prosecutors.
The deal means Gray will be given a 30-year prison term. Sentencing was set for Jan. 30.
Gray’s co-defendant, Coleman King, pleaded guilty to the same charge last month and is to be sentenced Jan. 15.
Both defendants said they killed Aaron “Shorty” Hall last April 12 in Gray’s home after the three had been drinking. Gray said he and King beat Hall after he made a pass at King.
A third defendant, James Hendricks, 21, faces charges of assisting a criminal for allegedly driving Gray’s truck while Gray and King continued to beat Hall in the bed of the truck before dumping his body in a ditch. The men went back to that ditch several days later, wrapped Hall’s body in plastic and took to an outbuilding at Gray’s house. Police later found the body there.
