Man pleads guilty in Montana anti-gay assault
MISSOULA, Mont.—A 20-year-old Missoula man has pleaded guilty to felony assault and kidnapping for hogtying and beating a man last May.
Christopher Newrider pleaded guilty Jan. 8, with his sentencing set for Feb. 12.
Newrider admitted tying up Stevenpaul Richey, kicking him and hitting him in the face, breaking ribs and bones in his face. The 51-year-old Richey says his assailants uttered anti-gay epithets during the beating in his downtown apartment.
A co-defendant, 20-year-old Michael D. Lemay, has been sentenced to 20 years, with 15 years suspended. He was also ordered to pay $41,500 in restitution.
