OBIT: Mary York, 52
Attorney Mary York passed away Jan. 24 after a long battle with renal cancer. She was 52.
A partner with the Chicago firm of Mulryan and York, York gave her time and expertise to a number of local GLBT organizations, including Lesbian Community Care Project (then Lesbian Community Cancer Project), where she served as board president.
“So many of us knew and loved Mary York—not only was she LCCP’s board president during LCCP’s pivotal move into Howard Brown Health Center, more importantly she was an incredible leader and woman,” said Catherine Jefcoat, director of LCCP, in a statement. “She had a supreme and intuitive sense of right and wrong but was always humble and empathic. She believed in living life fully—and building a positive, aware and caring community that treasured life as much as she did.”
A visitation was held Jan. 27 at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5301 N. Western. Funeral services were held Jan. 28 at Unity Church of Chicago, 1925 W. Thome.
