Center wins real estate award
The Center on Halsted was awarded the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Outstanding Non-Profit Real Estate Project at the 14th Annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards Feb. 7. The award was for the Center’s “commitment to sustainable development and its design ingenuity.”
The Center also received $15,000 for the honor.
“The Center on Halsted enhances the community through the scope of services it provides as well as the sustainability of design,” said Andrew Mooney, executive director of LISC/Chicago and co-founder of CNDA. “The services and support offered to community members is invaluable and responds to a significant need.”
Established in 1995, CNDA recognizes outstanding achievements in neighborhood real estate development and community building, especially the achievements of community development corporations, other community-based organizations and for-profit developers working to build healthier neighborhoods in the Chicago metropolitan area.
“The visibility of this building and the transparency of its design provide a space that invites the entire community to come be a part of the life and programs that are taking place within this facility,” said Modesto “Tico” Valle, executive director of the Center on Halsted.
This year’s awards ceremony was held at the Chicago Hyatt Regency Hotel.
