Virginia schools chief amends order on penguin book
LEESBURG, Va.—Loudoun County school Superintendent Edgar Hatrick says he erred when he pulled a book from general circulation in the elementary school libraries.
The book titled “And Tango Makes Three” is about a penguin family with two fathers. After a parent complained that it promoted a gay agenda, Hatrick ruled that only teachers and parents would have access to the book.
Last week, Hatrick told the school board that the complaint involved only Sugarland Elementary School, and librarians at other elementary schools have the option of returning the book to the shelves.
School board members say they are considering changes in the policy for challenging books.
