Chicago meth bust nets $3 million in drugs
Chicago police seized almost $3 million worth of crystal methamphetamine and cocaine at a home in the 2500 block of North Linder around 9:30 p.m. March 24.
Police said they found about 9 kilograms of meth and 790 grams of cocaine in the raid, which resulted from an ongoing investigation. A 29-year-old man living at that address was taken into custody. His name was being withheld pending charges being filed, police said.
Police said they weren’t sure if all the meth they seized was manufactured at the North Linder apartment but said they found equipment used to make the drug and believe that meth was being cooked there.
Police called the Chicago Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit to deal with the potentially dangerous products stemming from meth manufacturing.
A CPD spokeswoman said March 25 that she could not confirm whether or not the meth seized in the Northwest Side raid had any connection to Chicago’s gay community. Crystal meth abuse has been an issue of concern in the gay community in recent years.
