Rogers Park attack looked at as possible hate crime
An attack on a man in Rogers Park is being investigated as a possible hate crime, according to Chicago police.
A 22-year-old man reported that he was attacked in the 6700 block of North Sheridan Road shortly after 1 a.m. on August 17.
The man, who has not yet been identified publicly, told police he was confronted by three men who referred to him using an anti-gay epitaph. At least one member of the group punched him before all three ran off.
The victim phoned 911 and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was given stitches, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Police spokesperson Laura Kubiak said police do not yet have any suspects in the case. She was also unaware of any similar attacks happening recently in the area.
