The University of Illinois at Chicago and Gerber/Hart Library last week announced a number of events taking place in October in honor of GLBT History Month.

The theme of UIC’s month-long program of events is “Coexisting Intersections: The Path for Spirituality, Sexuality, Community and Self,” which kicks off with a talk by Cuban-born author Christian de la Huerta Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Behavioral Sciences Building, 1007 W. Harrison St, Rm. 145.

Two weeks later, Beverly Little Thunder holds a “talking circle” about the Native American “Two Spirit” community Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m. on the lower level of the Student Residence and Commons, 700 S. Halsted St., in the Rathskeller room.

“Mapping the Path: A LGBT Spirituality Retreat” offers perspectives from a variety of faith and spiritual communities Oct. 20, from 12:30—6 p.m., at the UIC Agape House, 809 W. Roosevelt Road. Pre-registration is recommended before Oct. 15.

Author and scholar Kelly Brown Douglas, professor and chair of philosophy and religion at Goucher College, discusses her book, “Sexuality and the Black Church: A Womanist Perspective,” Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. at the African-American Cultural Center, 830 S. Halsted St., in Addams Hall, Room 209.

Finally, a book discussion on spirituality and bisexuality based on the anthology “Blessed Bi Spirit,” 3 p.m. at Barbara’s Bookstore, 1218 S. Halsted, closes the series.
