Gay and lesbian candidates win elections across U.S.
WASHINGTON—The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund reported last week that 31 of its 71 endorsed openly gay and lesbian political candidates won election Nov. 6, with three more advancing to runoffs.
“This is the path to change,” said GLVF CEO Chuck Wolfe.
Among the highlights cited by the Victory Fund were Craig Covey’s election as mayor in Ferndale, Mich., transgender incumbent Michelle Bruce’s advancement to a runoff election for the Riverdale, Ga., City Council and Jeffrey Anderson’s election to the Duluth City Council, becoming the first openly gay elected official in northern Minnesota.
Wolfe said the Victory Fund aims to support more than 100 openly gay and lesbian candidates in 2008.
