Recount bounces openly gay mayor out of office

VALLEJO, Calif—For a while there, it appeared that the city of Vallejo had elected its first openly gay mayor.

After a vote recount, it turns out the city actually has its first black mayor. Osby Davis has emerged victorious in the recount, pulling ahead of openly gay Gary Cloutier by just three votes.

The first results of the Nov. 6 election had Cloutier ahead by five votes. Now the Solano County elections office confirms that Davis, a former Solano County supervisor, is the winner.

Cloutier had come under scrutiny around election time after he was arrested behind the wheel of a Cadillac on suspicion of public intoxication outside a Palm Springs bar.
